Upon completion of my degree, I hope to pursue post-doctoral research either in academia or industry in the field of cancer research. |
After a few years of post-doctoral experience, I aspire to seek a position in a research center like National Cancer Institute, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or National Institutes of Health to further hone my academic experience.
Eventually, I would like to return to a research university and set up my own laboratory where I can combine research and teaching.
In addition to working at a university, I would still like to participate in outreach programs that will allow me to inform high-school students about research careers and community-based education programs to promote the awareness of cancer research. |

Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-beta) has been shown to perform a dual function as both a tumor suppressor in early stage carcinogenesis and a pro-metastatic factor in late-stage tumor progression.
Early studies have shown that inhibition of TGF-beta signaling pathway can alter various aspects of tumor metastasis such as migration, invasion, angiogenesis and immune suppression. The central hypothesis of the proposed studies is that adeno-associated virus (AAV) mediated deliver of siRNA sequences targeting TGF-beta1 in MDA-MB 435 breast cancer cells can alter the metastatic phenotype at defined time-points of tumor progression and/or act as an adjuvant to primary chemotherapies.
If promising, this therapy may also be used in combination with current chemotherapies to provide a synergistic effect against breast cancer metastasis or act to sensitize tumor cells to current chemotherapies. |
