Insulin resistance is central to the
pathogenesis of Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM), the Insulin Resistance Syndrome (IRS),
and cardiovascular disease, and presents a heavy burden of patient suffering and
health care costs. The immediate cause of insulin resistance involves defects in
the insulin-stimulated glucose transport system in skeletal muscle, although
underlying mechanisms have not been fully
elucidated.

signal transduction and fuel metabolic pathway
in the skeletal
muscle. |
