Department of Psychiatry

Dr. James Moncier
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine

Dr. James Moncier joined the UAB faculty in October 2000.  He graduated  with a PhD in Counseling and Psychology in 1991 from Indiana State University and then completed an internship at the VAMC in Danville, IL.  His areas of special interest include stress and sport psychology. In his leisure time he enjoys working with computers.


Dr. Tarak Vasavada
Associate Professor of Pyschiatry

Dr. Vasavada obtained his medical training in India, where he completed and initial residency in Psychiatry.  Thereafter, he completed an additional residency in psychiatry at Upstate Medical College in Syracuse, NY.  He is involved in various education committees and has won several teaching awards, including Best Attending Award from UAB/Huntsville and the Argus Award for Best Teacher in the last several years.  Dr. Vasavada has been advising students during various stages of their educational process.  His areas of interest include Medical Student Education, Consultation Liaison, Psychiatry, Severe Mental Illness, and Psycho-pharmacology.


Dr. Anupama Yedla
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

Dr. Anupama Yedla joined the Psychiatry division in September 2003.  She received her medical degree from Ambedkar Medical College in India and then completed her psychiatric residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she served as chief resident.  Thereafter, she completed a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at UAB.  Dr. Yedla will be accepting adult and geriatric patients for her practice.
