| Description |
The thrombin time is performed to detect the presence of heparin. If no heparin is present, the thrombin time may be used to detect fibrinogen abnormality. The thrombin time is always used to screen for heparin before performing PT or APTT mixing studies or the lupus anticoagulant profile. |
