Collect one (1) blue-stopper tube (3.2% sodium citrate), filled to specified volume. Do not underfill or overfill.

Specimen Management Centrifuge blue-stopper tube within one (1) hour of collection, separate plasma and test or quick-freeze at -70°C.

Description Fibrinogen levels are decreased in disseminated intravascular coagulation and in liver disease. Further, in liver disease, abnormal fibrinogen, called dysfibrinogenemia, is common. Chronically elevated fibrinogen confers an increased risk of arterial thrombosis.

Follow-up Test Fibrinogen assay is often performed with the D-dimer, PT, APTT, and platelet count in the diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation and liver disease.
