Specimen

Collect two (2) blue-stopper tubes (3.2% sodium citrate), filled to specified volume. Do not underfill or overfill.

Specimen Management Centrifuge blue-stopper tubes within one (1) hour of collection, separate plasma and test or quick-freeze at -70°C.
Specimen Accepted Daily including weekends

Test Performed Assay is performed by reference laboratory. Results available in two weeks.

Description The von Willebrand factor multimeric analysis is used to distinguish type 2 von Willebrand disease from type 1 and to distinguish between types 2A and 2B. The multimer assay is suggested in follow-up to the von Willebrand profile, consisting of the ristocetin cofactor, von Willebrand factor antigen, and factor VIII activity.
