Specimen

Collect three (3) blue-stopper tubes (3.2% sodium citrate), filled to specified volume. Do not underfill or overfill.

Specimen Management Do not centrifuge. Maintain tubes at room temperature and deliver to special coagulation laboratory within 3 hours of collection.
Specimen Accepted Monday-Friday. Contact the special coagulation laboratory at 205-934-8650 before collecting specimen.
Times Available 0730-1300. Specimen must arrive by 1300.

Description Platelet aggregometry is used to detect congenital or acquired platelet deficiencies such as storage pool disorder, release disorder, von Willebrand disease, or platelet membrane abnormalities. Aggregometry uses the agonists collagen, thrombin and arachidonic acid.
Reference Interval A pathologist's interpretation is provided with each platelet aggregation result.
